THE COST OF SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE

10 DAYS of euphoria from a little more than half of Scottish referendum voters, with deep resignation from the rest of us, followed by:

10,000 DAYS, for many of the younger amongst us, of ever-growing realisation that:

  • freedom under independence is no greater than the freedom we already have.

  • there would be no “hundreds of pounds per person per year”, neither from North Sea oil, nor from anywhere else.

  • the English and Westminster weren’t  so bad after all!

………and all of this with NO WAY BACK!  Can it really be worth it for 10 days of euphoria?

We on the Unionist side cannot offer the short-lived excitement that would undoubtedly follow a vote for independence.  Nor do we suggest that anyone is going to be hundreds of pounds a year better off.

But what we can offer is something much more important – stability, and the knowledge that we are protected from financial risk through being part of a larger unity.
