GIRVAN - Kennedy's Pass

 Tour:   Self

Weather:     Hot and sunny, but poor visibility
Spilitic pillow lavas of the upper part of the Ballantrae Complex, exposed 200 metres south of Kennedy's Pass.
The Kilranny Conglomerate exposed at Kennedy's Pass.  It contains clasts, large and small, of extrusive and of intrusive rocks including a pink granite (left of centre, top). The matrix is dark grey.
Henderson's Unconformity - an eroded surface of the Kilranny Conglomerate (right) has been progressively channel filled by the thin, fine-grained beds of the Ardwell Flags (left and top).
Typical Ardwell Flags, a rapid alternation of  fine sandstones and thin, grey mudstones.  The cascade folding may be related to Caledonian movements, or may due to slumping soon after deposition.
Near vertical, often over-folded Ardwell Flags, extending from Kennedy's Pass in the distance.
Near vertical rocks of the Lower Whitehouse group, on headland just north of Ardwell Farm.
